The types of road curves
The curves in roadway is categorized as follow :-
- Horizontal Curve
- Vertical Curve
- Horizontal Curve
HORIZONTAL CURVE
A horizontal curve offers a changeover among two tangent strips of roadway, facilitating a vehicle to settle a turn at a sluggish rate in spite of a sharp curve.
The horizontal curve is again categorized as follow :-
- Simple Curve
- Compound Curve
- Reverse Curve
- Transition Curve

SIMPLE CURVE
A simple arc is arranged in the road to set a curve among the two straight line.
COMPOUND CURVE
This type of curve is formed by combining two simple curves jointly. They curve in the equivalent direction.
REVERSE CURVE
It is formed by combining two simple curves jointly to curve in the opposite direction.
TRANSITION CURVE
This type of curve comprises of continuously changing radius that is applied to attach a circular arc to a straight line.
VERTICAL CURVE
It offers a changeover among two sloped roadways, facilitating a vehicle to settle the elevation rate change at a successive rate in spite of a sharp cut.
The Vertical curve is again sub-categorized as follow :-
- Sag Curve
- Crest Curve
SAG CURVE
This type of curve alters the alignment of the road from uphill to downhill.
CREST CURVE
This type of curve alters the alignment of the road from downhill to uphill.
